My IT career started in London at Charles Letts (a diary company) in 1975, where they gave me the chance to become a trainee programmer. The language was Cobol to start with, but later included Business Basic. Some years later and quite by chance, I was given the opportunity to go freelance working for the European Community in Luxembourg.

First week as a Freelancer - 1984

This was the first of many contracts away from England, and amazingly I was able to pick up some languages skills such as German, French and a little Dutch on my travels around Europe. Naturally I continued to learn other programming languages, databases, operating system and related software. As a contractor training can be expensive, but luckily some courses were given as part of the introductory training. After studying Web design in 2005, I managed to compliment this with Java and it's many related tools and software.

Today

More recently I started working as a permy, as contractors term it, which brought me to Belgium. It's a wonderful country with more than just beer and chocolate.

Another benefit of living in Belgium.

There I met someone special and we were married within months.
